How to Prepare for Your Notarization

To ensure a smooth and efficient notarization, please have the following ready for your appointment:

Valid Photo Identification You must bring an original, government-issued photo ID. The name on your ID must match the name on the document. It must be current or issued within the last 5 years.

Most Common Forms of ID:

  • Valid CA Driver License or ID card

  • Current US Passport

  You can also use one of the following forms of ID if it contains a photo, physical description, ID number, and signature:

  • Valid Drivers license or ID card from another state

  • Canadian or Mexican Driver’s License

  • Valid Foreign Passport

  • U.S. Military ID ( must meet requirements above)

  • Federally recognized tribal government ID

  • Consular ID card from Country of Citizenship



If you do not have any of the forms above you can use 2 credible witnesses:


You will need to have 2 people at the appointment who know you and can vouch for your identity, They cannot be relatives. Those people will need one of the ID above.


IF The Signer Is Unable to Sign their Name due to Disability or a Physical Ailment, don’t worry! They can do a Signature by Mark. This will require 2 witnesses who know the signer, but are not related. Those witnesses will also need to have ID.
